The Gift of Health

Christmas is a time for giving. Consider giving someone the gift of health. This year’s top ten will not cost you a fortune and can prove to be lots of fun!

10. Yoga or Pilates gift set – For those that practice, getting things like nice mats, bags, straps, blocks, balls, etc. are much appreciated.

9. Fitness DVDs – From kickboxing to chair aerobics to Tai chi, there are a host of DVDs to choose from. Stick with DVDs that are of interest to the individual you are purchasing for. Consider their fitness level when purchasing the DVD. Don’t be afraid to get beginner level DVDs when appropriate.

8. IPod – Many would think that everyone has an IPod or IPod Nano, but for those that don’t this is an awesome gift to use during workouts. The 4th generation IPod Nano has 8GB and holds 2,000 songs. You can also have books on tape for information or motivation.

7. BOSU – is dome shaped with one-half stability ball, one-half flat surface. With the cylinder side up, you can perform crunches, planks, pushups, squats, and do balance work. Because there is a flatter side, some of the exercises can be performed a little easier. You can also use the BOSU with the flat side up, doing exercises like mountain climbers, side plank flies, and squats, just to name a few.

6. Jillian Michaels Nintendo Ultimatum Fitness 2010 – Set your personal profile and goals then let Jillian’s avatar show you proper form and posture to complete your exercises. You can also check your progress and gain knowledgeable tips from Jillian.

5. Healthy Cookbook – For individuals that love to cook, or those that enjoy eating, there are a variety of really nice cookbooks to choose from. Healthy cookbooks can help give nutritional alternatives to preparing delicious foods without loosing the fun or flavor. Look for cookbooks that include nutritional facts.

4. Gym Membership – What a generous gift to give yourself or someone you love. Gyms often have flexible schedules to help accommodate your lifestyle. They also have a variety of cardiovascular equipment and weights. Many have classes that are included in the membership. Most gyms no longer require contracts and are reasonably priced.

3. Stainless steel water bottles. The bottles are eco-friendly because they are BPA free. The water bottles help with go green efforts in saving our planet and they help to cut down on the possibility of digesting the harmful chemical, Bisphenol A.

2. Wii Fit, Wii Fit Plus. Include the Wii Fit balance board to challenge your core and strength train. Strength training includes lunges, pushups, leg lifts, and side planks. There is a low impact cardiovascular component with activities like Basic step, Hula Hoop, and cardio boxing. Yoga postures like planks, chair, and tree can be performed. You can track goals and BMI. It will probably be one of the most popular gifts this year.

1. Fitness shoes and apparel. For those that are active, appropriate footwear is very important. Having new fitness apparel can be fun too. If you are unsure of the right shoe or outfit, gift certificates to sporting goods stores are nice too.
